Kids and Dogs

Kids are a lot like dogs. Yeah, I said it.
I have had dogs, and I have kids, so consider me a reliable source. These are two of my babies, Bosco and Ben.
I had a friend over for dinner one night and we both have 3 year old little boys and 1 year old little girls. I didn’t have an extra high chair for her baby girl, so I put a plastic mat on the floor, put some food on a plate for the babies, then set it down and let them have at it like they were two little shih tzu’s.  I realize some people might be a little offended by the comparison, but hey, I just call it like I see it.
Here are a few more reasons I can’t help but compare kids to our furry family members:
1.       They both drool
2.       We spend a fortune on buying them chew toys when all they really want to chew on is your most expensive pair of shoes
3.       If you don’t take them to the park to run, they will jump all over you and drive you crazy.
4.       Potty pads vs. diapers, really, is there much of a difference?
5.       When they learn a new trick like clapping, or shaking hands they will never do it on command
6.       You are always telling them to stop jumping on the furniture
7.       Pack and play vs. dog kennel, again, is there really much of a difference?
8.       They like to stop and smell the roses when they go on a walk
9.        It's not uncommon to see children on leashes and dogs in strollers
10. They both always want to sleep in your bed
11. Your husband is always blaming them for passing gas
12. They are always trying to eat something off of the floor
13. It's inevitable that they will pee on your carpet. Little tip: Pour salt on the spot where they peed and then vacuum it up. Works like a charm!
14.   And the BEST thing about dogs and kids are that they love us unconditionally and all they want in return is our love and attention!

Top 10 Toddler Talk Moments of 2011

1.      We are at Nordstrom’s and I tell Ben we are going to buy some stuff for daddy. Of course, we end up in the women’s shoe department first. I pick out a cute pair for myself and ask him what he thinks. With the most worried and confused look on his face he shouts "No Mom, put them back. Daddy will NOT like those!"

2.       Ben is walking upstairs to his playroom and I said "Have fun playing cars," and he says "Ok mom, have fun playing your phone.”

3.       I put Ben in time out (thank god for washable crayons and markers!) and after a minute or two he points to our wedding picture and says "Mommy, I didn't know you were a princess!" Of course that got him out of time out...little sweet talker!

4.      Ben says “Mom, Is there a baby bird in there?” as I am about to bite into a hardboiled egg. Yuck. I don’t think I will be eating eggs again for a while.

5.      I took Ben to the bank to open his savings account and when we were done the lady said "Ben, is there anything else I can do for you?" And he said, "Yeah, I need more money for my bank account."

6.      One week after I dropped my new iphone, cracked the back of it, got a cover to hide the evidence, and was sure little Ben wasn’t going to blow my cover, I overhear him telling daddy “And we were at the park and mommy dropped her phone and it went CRACK! See Dad, you can see the crack right there.” Tattle tale.

7.      I was feeling a little lazy so when I got a request for "breakfast for dinner" I made a big plate of toast. Ben is sitting at the table eating when he starts waving his piece of toast in baby Emma's face saying "Look Emma, it's pizza." I said, "That's not pizza, that's toast," and he said, "I know mom. I am just pretending you made real dinner."

8.       "Mom, Can I have another donut? I am going to save the rest of this one for Grandma and Grandpa."

9.      We were doing an advent devotional for Christmas and at the end of the lesson I asked Ben "Will you follow God like Mary and Joseph did?" "No," he said. "Why not?" I asked. "I just want to stay home today mom."

10.    "Grandpa, can you please catch my cold so it doesn't fall on Emma?"

Casual Friday

This is what happens when you let a toddler dress himself. It's Friday, so he's business casual. PJ's paired with a nice sweater. It's gonna be the new trend.

My Inspiration for This Blog

I've got a funny kid.  He makes me laugh everyday.  I figured I would start a page dedicated to the sweet, hilarious, and sometimes frustrating moments of life with a toddler.  I hope his antics will brighten your day as much as they do mine.

This blog is for anyone who wants to have a good laugh or has their own toddler at home and wants to share some good "toddler talk" as well.
